Blogging out the pain Ep.5

Snow, what type of joke is one morning of horrendous weather!? When I completely expected a nice dry morning when I left at 7:30am, oh so wrong!

Right, I know this is a few days late and to be fair to myself its come at the right time to deadly honest since having a lack of sleep and rest I seemed to have become 'ill' (my eyes are very sensitive to light, which I'm guessing is an effect of lack of sleep) so i'm taking a day or two away from the bike, just to be safe I don't ride into a parked car or lamp post.

Back to the snow day!

Woke up bright and early, jumped on the turbo trainer and ate porridge with cinnamon, its the perfect start to any day especially when you look outside to blue skies (cold but clear skies). I left the house around 7:40am taking the usual route which felt very quick, almost too quick as I soon learnt it was a heavy back wind when I came to riding back into town! Anyways 2.5 miles into the ride I felt a definite turn in the air temperature and started feeling icy snow flakes on my face (never fun) but kept pushing on as the wind started to build up on me around 3 miles in. Clearly I had to have a obligatory stop for snow videos and selfies, because who doesn't in the new age of technology!?

As I started my return run home, I realised a serious mistake had been made by not wearing any thermal or waterproof clothing, typical mistake when under estimating the weather. Around the 4th mile in I had pretty much come to a stand still getting hit by head winds and a blizzard of snow flying at me, which sucked because I couldn't see a fucking thing... Just to point out in traffic that could of been a great moment for a helmet! So by the time I had reached home I was pretty much a snow man to be fair, which was fun once I was home and able to get the bath run and dry but during the ride I actually felt myself start to drop.

Mentality is one of the biggest playing parts in any type of lifestyle, especially when you start to think 'I can't do this' and I'm glad that it happened to me because it gave me a look into how some people grow and understand themselves better as a rider or whatever they may be in to. I know getting caked in snow for little under an hour wasn't pushing my mind to its limits BUT on the other hand it still opened up another frame of mind which has allowed me to look deeper into cycling and how guys handle this.

Anyways, give the Vlog a watch its not the longest but its me bobbing about the house getting warm and blow drying my feet!

Thanks guys and gals!

Dan!
